Ann’s wearable fiber art combined with Frances’s hand-woven garments will be shown at the upstairs Frances Francis store. Ann and Frances have been best friends since studying for their MFA degrees at RISD.
Ann has taught Fiber Arts/Materials Studies at Syracuse University and served as Dean of SU College of Visual and Performing Arts for a number of years. She has shown in a number of exhibitions over the past two years, including a residency with the Peaked Hill Trust Arts and Sciences Program with Cape Cod’s National Seashore. Currently, her studio is located on the lower level of the Frances Francis Wellfleet store.
Frances’s early love for weaving culminated in earning a dual major in textiles and fashion design from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1980. After exhibiting her original designs in fiber art shows for several years, Frances hired Cape and Fall River women to begin making her designs being sold in boutiques around the country for the past twelve years.
In 2003 Frances opened her first Cape boutique in Wellfleet followed by a second store in Orleans a few years later. Both stores continue to offer her unique designs that incorporate unity of form, color, and fabric that harmonize with the body. She has expanded her selections to now include other well-known designers from the US and Europe.
