These Tunisian stamps, issued in 1988, feature a fountain in Manouba, a northeastern city and part of the greater Tunis metro area. The image was created by the artist Hatem El Mekki, who was born in Indonesia, but studied art in Paris and became a notable painter in Tunisia. These stamps are trimmed in faceted Indian glass.
She creates remarkable jewelry from antique and vintage architectural elements, including hinges, keyholes, chandelier parts and doorbells. She searches high and low for castoff pieces of the past, then reinvent them. She frames them in classical jewelry settings, to highlight their hidden and often unintended beauty. The result is a striking and adventurous synthesis of industrial strength and glamour.
